At the last BME Forum, we discussed celebrating this year’s Black History Month in October with an event at the Greenwich Heritage Centre.
BME Forum members are invited to submit an object that has some cultural, ethnic or traditional significance for their community, but may also be about issues that have social relevance today. The story that accompanies the object will be displayed (in text or audio) beside the object and displayed at Greenwich Heritage Centre during October. There will also be a launch event at the start of October and BME organisations are invited to perform music, dance, drama and spoken word at this launch.
This is a great opportunity for all BME communities to join in Black History Month: to promote community cohesion, to raise social issues relevant to them today and to add their personal stories to the rich and diverse tapestry of Greenwich’s history. We may be able to get some funding to support this too….
If your organisation is interested in taking part, please complete and email Jo the BHM Heritage event interest form by Sunday 11th July.
