On 13 October, volunteers from the charity Stop Hate UK will be promoting their Royal Borough of Greenwich helpline service at Eltham library between 10 am and 4 pm. (Note to GAVS Woolwich library on 3 November).

They will be providing information and advice on their independent and confidential 24 hour Hate Crime reporting service and encouraging both the subjects and the witnesses of hate incidents to use it. Hate crimes start with smaller incidents and then grow until potentially something dreadful

happens. By using the helpline to report all incidents, the community can fight hate crime and nip it in the bud.

It covers all strands of hate crime and incident (race, sexual orientation, disability, faith, gender identity) and therefore can also handle situations where there may be more than one reason behind the action that needs to be reported  (and is in itself a sign of unity in fighting hate).

Please let as many people as possible know about this service. It is there for all of us – we can either use it or lose it!

If anyone would like to come and help on the stand, even for an hour, please contact Peter Noble or Lucy Vella.”
